Discounts & Markups
What are discounts and markups?
Section titled “What are discounts and markups?”Discounts reduce the price of a service or material on a quote — for example, a 10% discount applied to the total, or a fixed dollar amount off a line item.
Markups add a percentage to the base cost to cover overhead or profit — for example, a 20% markup on materials to set the sell price above your cost.
Both are configured inside a book (business unit) and apply to quotes created from that book.

Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Do discounts apply to the whole quote or to individual lines?
Discounts apply to the whole quote — the percentage or fixed amount is taken off the quote total, not from a single line.
Can I apply more than one discount to a quote?
Yes, multiple discounts can be applied to a quote depending on your book’s configuration. The order in which discounts are applied may affect the final total — your admin can explain how your discounts are stacked.
Will changing a discount rule affect existing quotes?
No. Changes to discount and markup rules in a book apply to new quotes only. Existing quotes keep the values they were built with.
Things to check
Section titled “Things to check”Discount not appearing on a quote
The discount rule may not be enabled for the book you are quoting from. Ask your admin to check the book’s discount settings.
Markup not calculating as expected
Markup is calculated from the base cost. If the cost price for a material is wrong, the markup will also be wrong. Verify the material cost in the catalogue, then recalculate the quote.
